What documents do you need while car shopping?

  • Driver’s license: The dealership may need a copy before you take your test drive.
  • Current proof of insurance: Bring along a copy of your current proof of insurance, and if you don’t have any currently, speak to an agent or company ahead of time. They can talk to the dealership on your behalf.
  • Certificate of Title: Speed up the trade-in process by bringing in your own pink slip, or you may have to wait awhile for the DMV to send over the duplicate title.
